Hi Everybody!
Can't wait to hear how you guys in the suburban school made out this morning; I went to the urban school and stayed for so long that I had to get back to the university...let me know how your day went.
On November 9th, we'll hear presentations from Diana & Nicole about after-school programs and extracurricular activities. After that I'll go over the TWS/Contextual Factors paper. And then, as a treat, I think I'll introduce you to digital stories. Adriana opened up a can of worms when she mentioned the article from the last COE newsletter...anyway, it's something I'm sure ALL of you are going to enjoy.
See you soon.

I think the Harrison School was pretty cool. It was fun and I felt really comfortable there. I don't know which school I liked better. I am torn becuase the students from both schools were awesome.
Valley Road and Harrison Elementary were so different. I couldn't believe how different the two schools were. I mean don't get me wrong Valley Road is nice and everyone is friendly, but I still feel each school just has two different types of environment. The classes seem to also run differntly at Valley Road, but today was only the first day after a few more visits maybe I will think they were similar after all
Two things happened at my "Urban" school that just cracked me up.
First in an attempt to get the Kindergarten class to say the word cop (the were learning C words) The teacher said "What is another name for a police officer"
One little boy raised his hand and was called on he responded " My Daddy calls them Pigs."
Then we were looking on google images for animals that are also C words- we saw a cocoon, a Cockatoo, and then a little girl raised her hand and was called on "In my house we have cockroaches" To which the teacher replied- Thank you for sharing-then to me I bet you didn't hear things like that in Clark. All I could think was- well at least it was a C word!
I loved my visit at Harrison! My teacher is awesome. She made me feel so comfortable in the classroom. I was fortunate to have a 1st grade class because the comparisons are huge! I was able to walk around and interact with the students. I look foward to my next visit!!
The differences between the school was clearly evident. I loved Harrison school, I am actually going to do my junior field there, As Dorese metioned earlier the atmosophere at Valley Road school was different. I can't put my finger on what was different, but it was.
I agree, Valley Road and Harrison were like night and day. One thing is for sure all the teachers from both of the schools were all extremely helpful and kind. I am not positive which school I like best, but the kids were all so cute! I’m glad that we are able to experience both environments.
