The second video freaked me out, all of those facts about everything constantly changing and how especially Americans care more about technical advances then an advancement in education. The entire video really put our society as a whole into perspective. Two facts in particular stood out when I watched the video. The first one being that by the age of 38 the average person would have worked anywhere from 10 to 14 jobs. This in general scared me because I have worked with one company for the past four summers and the current company I am working for now almost a year but unfortunately thats only two different jobs meaning I have a lot more work experience ahead of me.
The second fact was the idea that all of the information that I will learn the first two years of college will all be outdated by my third year. This makes you question all of your hard work that you have put into your college classes over the years. In the end, this video helped put society into perspective for me and shows how society in general doesn't focus much on education anymore.

First, the music from Last of the Mohicans was AWESOME!!. On a serious note, the video really generated a lot of sad feelings for me. It disturbs me to think that many companies spend a lot more money than Nintendo to have us buy their products. That money could be spent towards education in some way.
Also, that after watching the 1st video it seems that we are pushing towards technology so hard and fast that we are forgetting many of the simple things in life. Teaching kids is about allowing them to explore their world around them, but if we shove technology in their face 24/7 what are they really "exploring"? Teaching them lessons that they can carry on in life. If we only teach technology we will get them through about 1 year of their life. As the video said "shift happens".

For everyone who has not done the corporate America thing yet- no worries about outdated information in college- the one great thing is continued education- my old company had web classes, a college in the building and would pay for any outside education.
Many companies will invest in keeping their staff current/educated as it benefits them to do so.

As for the job hopping- we all do it as it is the only way to get a big pay increase. The average raise is less then 6% a year. When you switch jobs it is usually for 10 grand more a year plus. It is not that American's can not maintain jobs- it's our desire for luxury/comfort that drives us to change companies. I have worked for 5 major companies in the past 6 years and jumped from 7.50 an hour to 50 grand a year- w/out a college education with full education reimbursement/ medical and gym reimbursement and annual bonuses. (and I gave it all up to teach!)

Darn my inner Republican- who loves the US and can't handle watching these videos with out thinking about how much is not being said.
Yes there are more people in India and China, and they have more honor students then we do-but if it was strictly a number game they also have more opportunity to have more scholars as overall they have more students.
What is not being said is the down side to the over population or that we adopt 20 babies a day from China alone-children who could have been left to live in orphanages (and past years many female babies were killed due to the overpopulation)
Sure we are outsourcing to India..blah blah blah....but we also live longer.

Below are just some other random facts for review.

http://usgovinfo.about.com/library/weekly/aa020802a.htm

Though it has only about one-fourth the total population of India, the United States have more people age 80 and over.
• The United States have more than twice the population of Nigeria but fewer children under age 5.

• Over the next quarter century, the world's population is expected to grow by 29 percent, with nearly all of the increase taking place in developing countries. The U.S. population is expected to grow 23 percent by 2025.

Shelley Johnson, the American citizen services chief recently assigned from Washington, put the enormousness of Chinese adoption into perspective.

"Two years ago we processed visas for 20 adoptions a month," she said. "It's up to 20 a day now and next year probably will go to 50."

Yes I think we need to be aware of what else is going on in the world- but I also think we need to look at the positive as well.
And remember stats are often manipulated to suit the message at hand, contrary to popular belief -numbers can lie.

Everyone writes so much on here. I keep it so simple and short. I hate that. lol. This video freaked me out a little. Maybe it had something to do with the music. Wow, the facts are unbelievable. One fact that stood out was the one that said that a supercomputer that would be smarter than us. First off, it made me think back a few years ago when I made my theory that someday computers will take over the world. Secondly, it made me think that in a way, my theory is sort of coming true. We are so dependent on technology and it amazes me that companies are spending more money on video games and trying to keep us "entertained" (for lack of a better word) than spending money on education. I think about that a lot. "Hmm why can't they spend money on new books, etc?" Oh yeah. It's because they are spending too much money on computers and games. Ok, I'm done.

Intense, I’m not really sure what to think about this video. Think I need to digest! Not positive if I found it terrifying or extraordinary, probably a little bit of both. The idea that a computer can and will be smarter then the entire race. That’s just insane to me or maybe I've just been naive. I guess in the back of my mind I knew. I guess I never image it in my lifetime. I feel old!!!!

I'm not too sure what to think of this video. Some of what I saw shocked me. For example, students are being prepared for jobs that don't even exist, one in every eight couples married in the U.S. last year met online (that's insane), if myspace were a country it would be the 11th largest in the world. It really makes you think what is the world coming to. Technology is great, but think about it pretty soon everything will be done by computers. How will we get jobs? We barely have enough jobs for people now imagine 10 or 20 years from now. More people are meeting online rather then meeting at cafe or a club, etc. Text messages sent and recieved each day exceeds the population of the planet. This is all so unbelievable. Technology is great, but will it be so great 20 or 30 years from now?

Ok video shocked me alot.. so much information... which we don't even know is going to happen. What shocked me the most is the part where it said what we learned the first year of school will be outdated by the time we are in our third year of school. Then what is the point of going to school for so long. That made me angry!
