I felt this video was extremely effective. In the beginning it seemed to enforce the idea on how technology has really come a long way over the past few decades. As the video progressed it proposed a very smart idea. If children and teenagers are so caught up with their ipods and cell phones then why not use them in the classroom. In the end maybe students would have a better and more positive opinion toward school and learning. Then again I couldn't imagine my teacher text messaging me with an assignment to do.

Like Marie said the video was effective. It got it's point across that technology should be used in the classroom and intergrated. We have become an "instant" and digital society. We want it easy and now. Technology can fulfill those voids and help reinforce the things that we teach in the classroom. As it said in the begining there are many different ways to teach a child and this is just another way. I hope it does not become the ONLY way.

Let's Not Be Seduced By The IPOD-Let's Remember The I-Care Methods instead.

Now this might just be my age showing...but I am not "thrilled" with the idea of encouraging the use of cell phones in the class room. One of my pet peves as a student is being in a class and seeing other students texting during a lecture. By permitting use by inclusion in lessons we are also less able to monitor the abuse of this technology as well. (We also would have no way to block out the unwanted distraction of incoming calls and texts not related to the subject matter)
I feel the same way about computers in the class room- I have taken more then one class where the students are checking their personal emails instead of paying attention to the lesson being taught (perhaps if the schools blocked access to these temptations having the technology in the class room would make more sense)
As for comparing a student reading emails, blogs and text messaging to say Moby Dick-or even Are you there God Its me Margaret-there is no comparison. Texting is bring on a new form of language reminiscent of Orwell's think speak. In order to make texting easier we eliminate letters and are abbreviating everything-by doing this we are not properly instilling grammar and spelling. We are not encouraging a love for literature in their lives once we accept emails and texting as acceptable reading material.
On another note students have horrible penmanship now- as no one writes anymore-they type. Handwriting used to be a great area of pride-now cursive is almost a lost art.

Potentially by making our classrooms high tech- we are creating tunnel vision.

I don't think we need to ignore tech. i believe it is an invaulable thing in our society. I think we need to have it, but I don't think that we need to focus on it in every aspect of our society. We need to teach children to have correct grammar and good penmenship, like Jennifer said. And not just simply spell check and type everything. Tech. is a tool of education, not a education itself.

I do agree that we should not totally ignore technology. Like it or not, technology is going to be playing a huge role in the future. While I hate the idea of using cell phones in the class, our students should be able to learn how to use this new technology, but I don't think we should teach them while using it. I agree with both Jennifer and Kari. I'm just blabbing on and I don't think I am making any sense. 900,000,000 iPods?! Wow!

What did Apple or Cingular sponsor this video??

I found this video to be interesting and educational. Being that I plan in the near future to be a teacher that will be shaping the minds of our future generation, I find that technology in the classroom is vital to children’s learning. This video enforced and broadened the beliefs that I already have. This video expressed the idea that if we reach out to kids/teens using technology that they find appealing, that in turn will enhances their learning experience. I strongly believe that finding different ways to get kids excited about learning is the most effective tool in education.

I found this video to be fascinating and educational. I think that many teachers these days are very close-minded wanting to teach the old fashioned way and not use the recent technology we have established over the years. I think it would be a good idea to use ipods, text messaging, etc. in the classroom. I'm sure there are many ways we can use technology in teaching and it would most likely get our students to enjoy learning.

This video should be shown worldwide to educators. Only because it has a great effect on our students. I would love to go to class and be able to use the technology that i like to use. Class would be more exciting to go to. Video was awesome and i would encourage it to me and future teachers.

Now that I am finally on the blog I can comment on this great video! We are surrounded by all this new technology and people are finding more ways to incorporate it into our lives. Our minds are constantly trying to adapt to all the changes. I can use myself as an example because blogging is totally new to me and I felt completely lost! I believe teachers should continue educating students with books, newspapers, journals, etc. but, also include the wonderful world of technology! There is so much out there and it's definitely easy to "google" it, but not all students are computer savvy and that is something a teacher might have to face. The world of technology will not stop growing so present/future educators will also need 'go for the ride'.

I know it took me five million years to get on this blog, but I'm finally on it so I'm going to say what I have to say about this video. First of all I loved the statistics that they had popping up in the beginning. It made me realize how much technology is in today's world. I mean I know everyone has cell phones and computers, but when seeing the high numbers of children starting at the age of four using computers, it kind of amazes me. I believe that technology is a must in the classroom, because it is a must in today's world. Children are changing everyday, so I believe as teachers we must change and adjust with them. Therefore, technology will be in my classroom.
