Ideas for next Classroom visit

I really enjoyed my day at Hehnly school. The teacher I was visiting with had some suggestions I wanted to share with everyone. She said that I should bring my camera next time and take pictures of any bulletin boards that I liked so I'd have ideas for when I have my own classroom one day. She also suggested starting a folder and making copies of any handouts that I liked or make copies of any activities that I thought would work well in the classroom. She showed me the Back to School Folder that she gave the parents and said I could make copies of it if I wanted to. Did anyone else get any good tips on things to do next time we visit or on things to look for to help us out with our own classrooms one day?

Well the teacher I was observing was great. she showed me just by doing her everyday routine. it just seemed like she had everything under control. It was pretty nice. She showed me how she graded papers, handled a situtaion, and other things. Overall, it was a nice visit can't wait for next friday.

I got some great advice-"The key to being a great teacher is to beg, borrow, and steal ideas." Whenever you see something you like jot it down so you can implement it yourself. Two ideas I think I will borrow is to assign a number (based on the alphabet -Anderson could be 1 Brooks 2 Church 3 etc)) to all of your students, and have them write it on their papers. Children's handwriting is not always easy to read, but you can normally figure out their number. It is also easier to spot whose work you are missing if you utilize this method. The other idea was that anything that the state requires us to teach (like the math problem of the day) give out notebooks, and collect them each day- so that you always have proof that the requirement was met.

I loved last Friday and cannot wait to return to the class. I was permitted to read to the students, and interact with them during the lessons. It really made me certain that I want to teach.

But tell me- Is anyone else sick? I was sick all weekend and am just getting over it now. I better start taking vitamin C- as the cute little children have cute little germs that they are eager to share!

Jennifer, I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't the only one...
You will be catch almost everything during your first year of teaching, but after that your immune system will adjust and protect you from most of the "bugs" your students bring to your classroom.

That's some great advice! The teacher that I had didn't let me help out for the first half of the class but finally let me after lunch while the students were doing projects. It was really cool amd I enjoyed it a lot. (=

Yeah, take it from someone who is always in a classroom your first year you try to make a good impression, but it is hard when you are constantly fighting off the "cute" little germs. Don't worry your system will get stronger. I do suggest airborne is pretty good to boost your immune systerm

Oh, I loved my teacher she was so energetic and the kids adored her. They were writing her notes through out the day saying "U R the Best" " I love you" you know all that cute stuff. Seeing my teacher interact with the kids really encouraged me to become a teacher even more.
